Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Tuesday declared himself a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) despite not having formally defected.
Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Wadada said no opposition party has the capacity to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“I haven’t seen anyone in the ADC coalition or elsewhere who can do better than what President Tinubu’s administration is doing,” he said, stressing that the political space was already “occupied” by the president until at least 2031.
Wadada, a former APC chieftain and one-time national financial secretary of the PDP, described his earlier move from APC to SDP as circumstantial, adding that recent developments could prompt his return to the APC.
The senator praised Tinubu’s “transformative agenda,” citing major infrastructure projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry and Abuja–Kano highways, as well as improvements in the Federal Capital Territory, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.
On the contentious tax reform bills, Wadada defended the policy, noting that it exempts Nigerians earning below ₦800,000 annually from personal income tax and boosts state revenues in the wake of fuel subsidy removal. He also urged stakeholders to ensure accurate information reaches the public.
