The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Kingsley Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ude’s confirmation followed his screening on the floor of the Senate, where he responded to several questions from lawmakers on national and international issues.

Born in 1978, Ude previously served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.

During the screening, Senator Abdul Ningi asked Ude to comment on the “ongoing Trump threat” and possible diplomatic solutions. The question sparked brief reactions in the chamber, with some lawmakers arguing that Ude had already demonstrated his competence for the position.

Responding, Ude commended President Bola Tinubu’s diplomatic approach to the issue, describing it as “more of a diplomatic matter than a legal one.”

When asked by Senator Adamu Aliero about separating the offices of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Ude said the success of the office depends on the integrity and independence of the occupant rather than on whether the roles are fused or separated.

Satisfied with his responses, the Senate asked Ude to take a bow and leave, after which he was formally confirmed.

His nomination came weeks after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down following a certificate scandal.
