The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in Saturday’s poll.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Moghalu described the November 8 off-cycle election as an opportunity for INEC to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process.

“I will give INEC the benefit of the doubt. It will be unfair of me to write them off,” he said. “This election is an opportunity for INEC to redeem its image, do what is right, and restore the confidence of the people in our elections.”

The electoral commission has cleared 16 political parties to participate in the governorship election, with the incumbent, Governor Charles Soludo, seeking a second term.

Moghalu also expressed confidence in the preparedness of security agencies to maintain peace during the exercise, urging them to remain professional and provide a conducive environment for voters.

“The confidence is that once security agencies act professionally, we will have a peaceful and credible election,” he said. “Groups like IPOB and ESN do not have the capacity to stop our election. My appeal is for the security agencies to do what is right, provide security, and ensure an enabling environment.”

The LP candidate called on Anambra residents to come out and vote, expressing optimism that their voices would count in the election.
