Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun State, stated over the weekend that his administration would demolish properties that served as a shelter for cults and their activities in the state.
At the 2022 Akesan Day Celebration held at the Apostolic Grammar School in Iperu-Remo, the governor issued the warning in response to recent cult-related deaths in Iperu-Remo and its surrounds.
Abiodun reiterated his administration’s stance that it would not tolerate cultism and its associated illegal acts, stressing that the government would not spare anyone caught in the act.
He summoned the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Idowu Basibo, and the leaders of the town to a conference to consider measures to put an end to the terrible conduct.
The governor also asked parents to discipline their children, saying that the government would not tolerate a scenario in which a few individuals would bring shame to the state.
He characterised Ogun as a peaceful state with resourceful people, and stated that the Akesan Day event was intended to highlight and honour the history and rich culture of the Iperu people, who continue to play a vital role in Yorubaland and Nigeria.
