Despite assurances from the federal government that the country was secure, the UK government maintained its terror warning yesterday.

The new warning comes after Jabi Lake Mall, a prominent mall in the FCT, closed its doors yesterday in an effort to safeguard its employees and customers, according to management.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, FCDO, amended its travel advice to British nationals on Wednesday, October 26th, recommending them against all but necessary travel to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The FCDO stated that the travel advisory will be regularly updated to reflect the current situation in Abuja and Nigeria in general, and that the British High Commission will stay open for critical services.

It also noted that there was an elevated threat of terrorist attacks in Abuja and recommended British nationals to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel inside the city, and follow local news and security officials’ guidance.
