The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike beginning Friday, November 1, 2025.

In a statement issued on Sunday after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the association said the decision followed the Federal Government’s failure to address its long-standing demands despite several ultimatums and meetings.

NARD said the issues include the non-payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), delays in implementing the new hazard allowance, failure to recruit more doctors to address manpower shortages, and the poor state of healthcare infrastructure across public hospitals.

“The NEC observed with dismay the government’s continued insensitivity to the plight of resident doctors and the declining state of healthcare delivery in the country,” the statement read. “Having exhausted all avenues for dialogue, NARD has resolved to commence an indefinite strike effective November 1, 2025, until our demands are fully met.”

The association also called on the Federal and State governments to take urgent steps to avert a total collapse of the health sector, warning that the strike would affect services in tertiary hospitals nationwide.

NARD urged the public to hold the government responsible for any disruption in healthcare delivery during the industrial action.
