Leon Ivey Jr., popularly known as Coolio, the West Coast and Grammy-winning rapper, just passed away.
The rapper died in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the age of 59, according to his longtime manager, Jarez Posey.
Mr. Posey, who worked with the rapper for over 20 years, said he was told Coolio died around 5 p.m. at a friend’s house, and no cause of death was given.
Coolio is best known for his 1995 single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which earned him a Grammy award for the best solo rap performance.
The smash hit was taken from the soundtrack of Michelle Pfeiffer’s film Dangerous Minds, and it sampled Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song Pastime Paradise.
Throughout his career, which began in the late 1980s, he was nominated for five other Grammys.
