Real Madrid 2-1 victory over their city rivals Atletico Madrid at Metropolitano was superseded by racist chanting directed at Vinicius Jr outside the Wanda Metropolitano stadium as Real Madrid’s team bus arrived at the ground.

According a Sky sports reporters, a group of Atletico Madrid fans were filmed singing racist chant directed at Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius outside the Metropolitano stadium before the game.

The head of the Spanish Football Agents Association, Pedro Bravo, was criticised last week for saying Vinicius needed to stop “monkeying around” when celebrating goals. Bravo said the comment was not intended to be interpreted as racist, and instead was just a common turn of phrase used in Spanish.

Vinicius and Real Madrid, however, both released statements condemning the racist abuse the player has suffered during his career.

Vinicius and Rodrygo celebrated the opening goal of the game by dancing in front of the Atletico fans as Real continued their winning start to the season.
