The National Records of Scotland published a copy of Queen Elizabeth II’s death certificate, which said that she passed away on September 8 due to “old age.”
The 96-year-old monarch died at her Balmoral Castle estate in the Scottish Highlands.
Elizabeth, who began her 70-year reign as monarch in 1952, was the longest-serving monarch in British history.
According to her death certificate, Princess Anne, her daughter, registered her death on September 16.
If the queen had died in England, there would have been no need to register her death because the law only applies to the sovereign’s subjects.
