Paris Saint-Germain claimed their maiden UEFA Super Cup title after a dramatic comeback from two goals down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties in Athens. The victory marks PSG’s fifth trophy of 2025.
Tottenham, aiming to become just the second Europa League holders since 2012 to lift the Super Cup, took control in the first half.
Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 38th minute after João Palhinha’s effort was parried onto the post. Cristian Romero doubled Spurs’ lead just after the break with a header that squeezed past PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.
The Ligue 1 champions struggled for much of the match but found a lifeline in the 85th minute when Lee Kang-in struck from the edge of the box.
Deep into stoppage time, Gonçalo Ramos headed in Ousmane Dembélé’s cross to force penalties.
In the shootout, Tottenham gained an early advantage when Vitinha missed PSG’s first attempt, but Van de Ven’s miss allowed the Parisians back in. Mathys Tel then failed to convert, and Nuno Mendes buried the decisive spot-kick to seal victory.
Lee Kang-in was named Man of the Match for his influential performance. PSG also became the first French club to win the UEFA Super Cup
