Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, has shed light on the crisis roiling the allocation of monies from the Federal Government and how such funds were managed between states and their local government bodies.
Atiku said that the problem began while he was the country’s Vice President, when he oversaw the local government administration and ensured that local government revenues were routed directly to local government accounts.
Atiku, who appeared on Sunday at the third presidential town hall series organised by Arise News, indicated that the strategy he implemented was opposed by the then-governors, who claimed it was unconstitutional.
Atiku stated that a review of the constitution was required to see how local governments might be rendered self-sufficient in terms of revenue and finances.
