President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a grand reward package for Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their remarkable triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
In a move reflecting national pride and appreciation, President Tinubu awarded each player and member of the technical crew a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
In addition to the honours, each player will receive a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the technical crew will each receive $50,000.
To further underscore the government’s recognition of their outstanding achievement, a plot of land will also be allocated to every player and technical staff member.
President Tinubu commended D’Tigress for their discipline, resilience, and consistent success on the continental stage, describing them as “true ambassadors of Nigerian excellence.”
The team recently made history by securing their sixth Afrobasket title, further cementing their status as Africa’s most dominant women’s basketball team.
