The Department of State Services has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and provide information on suspicious criminals in their communities to security agencies.
This comes after the US Embassy in Nigeria issued an advisory to its citizens about terrorists’ plans to carry out attacks in various parts of the country.
The US issued an advisory advising its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel or movement due to a ‘elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, particularly in Abuja.’
In a statement issued late Sunday night (23rd October), the DSS Public Relations Officer Department of State Services, National Headquarters, Peter Afunanya urged Nigerians to remain calm, adding that necessary steps had been taken to prevent such an attack from occurring.
“The Department of State Services has received several inquiries regarding the security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja today, 23/10/22,” it said. The general public may recall that the Service has previously issued similar warnings.
“While urging everyone to take the necessary precautions, the public is urged to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with useful information about threats and suspicious criminal acts in their midst.” Meanwhile, the Service appeals for patience as it collaborates with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to maintain peace and order in and around Abuja.”
