A one-story structure on Udensi Street in the Abakaliki metropolis was destroyed by fire.
The fire, which began at 1.30 p.m. on Friday, has devastated several residents of the impacted building.
According to sources, the event was caused by a spike in the voltage of the area’s energy supply, which occurred sporadically between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. prior to the disaster.
Mr Onuigbo, one of the burnt-out tenants, claimed the severity of the fire prevented him from retrieving any of his possessions from the structure.
Ibiam Raphael, Controller of the Ebonyi State Fire Service, verified the occurrence, adding work was still being done to put out the fires.
