Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidate, has promised that if elected in the 2023 elections, he will support legislative measures transferring more power to other levels of government.
On Wednesday, November 16th Atiku made the pledge during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Lagos. Correcting misinterpretations of his restructuring comments at a meeting with the Lagos Business School Alumni Association, the former vice president stated, “It is rather unfortunate that a section of the media reported my remarks at an event yesterday (Tuesday, November 15th), which casts doubts on my readiness to implement my restructuring agenda.”
“Let me, therefore, use today’s gathering of Nigerian media gatekeepers to state unequivocally that my restructuring agenda is intact and will be implemented on my first day in office.”
“I have already received a report from a team of constitutional law experts that I assembled to examine our constitution and highlight areas where items can be moved to the constitution’s concurrent and residual lists.”
“Let me assure you that if I am elected president next year, I will immediately begin working on the implementation of that report.”
While fielding questions from the press, Atiku stated that his government would collaborate with the private sector to fill the country’s infrastructure gaps.
