On Monday, the crisis engulfing the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State took a new turn when a party gubernatorial hopeful, Jimi Lawal, was suspended for allegedly organising and participating in a “illegal” governorship primary poll.
The lapsed court ordered the party, which had been divided into three groups, to hold a new primary within 14 days.
The party suspended Lawal and four others for anti-party activities: Bola Odunmosun, the party’s financial secretary, Fasiu Ajadi, Kola Akinyemi, and Tope Asiru, the party chairman of Ijebu North-East Local Government Area.
Solarin said that Lawal and the others had been suspended for one month pending the conclusion of a disciplinary committee that would be formed to investigate their actions.
Sunday Solarin, the party’s secretary, announced their suspension during a news conference at the party’s office in Abeokuta, the state capital.
