The five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, may boycott the inauguration of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday.
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stakeholders gathered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, on Sunday ahead of the launch of the party’s Presidential Campaign on Monday.
They include Delta State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke, Senator George Sekibo, Rivers East Senator Lee Maeba, and others.
However, there are indications that the complaints of Wike’s team and supporters have intensified as a result of Atiku’s decision to continue playing to the crowd rather than genuinely settling the matter.
Both Atiku and Wike’s supporters have been at odds since June, when the former vice president chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate instead of Wike, as previous attempts to reconcile them had failed to produce a beneficial outcome.
Atiku also seems to have decided to disregard Wike and continue with his campaign, despite the fact that the Rivers State Governor and his followers vowed to boycott the Atiku presidential campaign.
