Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has promised not to work for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku, if Sen. Iyorchia Ayu stays the party’s national chairman.
Makinde stated this while appearing on Southwest Political Circuit, a popular weekend show on Fresh 105.9 FM Ibadan.
In a veiled response to a question on whether he would work for Atiku if Ayu remained national chairman, Makinde stated that if the existing structure persists, he will only campaign for PDP candidates from Oyo State in 2023.
When reminded that the presidential election coincides with the National Assembly election, the Governor stated that voters are more politically aware than ever before, emphasising that they vote for candidates of their choosing when appropriate.
Makinde, a fervent supporter of Governor Nyesom Wike’s group of five governors, stated that they would not back down from their demand that a southerner be allowed to serve as the party’s national chairman.
