Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Osun State House of Assembly, proposing a budget of N705 billion. Tagged the “budget of transformation,” the plan allocates 55 per cent to capital expenditure and 45 per cent to recurrent spending.
Accompanied by senior officials, Adeleke said the 2026 budget builds on the achievements of his administration over the past three years and follows the successful implementation of the 2025 budget.
According to the governor, the total revenue projection includes N221.68 billion from FAAC allocations and N199.57 billion from independent revenue, with other receipts amounting to N268.35 billion. Recurrent expenditure is estimated at N317.41 billion, covering personnel costs of N135 billion and overheads of N182.41 billion, while capital expenditure totals N388.38 billion.
“The 2026 budget proposal is prepared based on the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) in accordance with the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law 2012,” Adeleke said.
The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, noting that over 300 km of roads have been constructed across the state’s three senatorial districts, alongside flyovers to ease traffic congestion. He added that more than 75 per cent of ongoing road projects have been completed.
Adeleke also reiterated the government’s commitment to prompt payment of salaries and pensions for workers and retirees. He cited health initiatives, including the Imole Medical and Surgical Outreach across the state’s six federal constituencies, and the induction of 10,000 youths into the Imole Youth Corps Scheme to tackle unemployment and youth restiveness. Beneficiaries have been deployed to sectors such as environmental services, education, and healthcare.
On healthcare infrastructure, Adeleke noted the donation of the Medical Research and Training Hospital by Mrs. Folorunso Alakija and improvements at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, including infrastructural upgrades, digital innovations, and staff welfare enhancements.
Welcoming the governor, House Speaker Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun praised Adeleke for his transparency, prudence, and accountability in managing state resources. He commended the administration for delivering measurable outcomes in infrastructure, education, healthcare, social inclusion, and workers’ welfare despite challenges, including the federal government’s withholding of local government allocations since March 2025.
Egbedun further lauded Adeleke’s leadership during local government administration disputes, emphasizing his commitment to fairness, dialogue, and the rule of law.
“The House notes with appreciation your restraint, diplomacy, and dedication to peace. Your prudent financial management and consistent developmental efforts reflect visionary and responsible leadership,” the speaker said.
