The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is currently congested, and the Ogun State Police Command has warned drivers and motorcyclists against using alternate lanes, also known as “one way” lanes.

This information was provided to the media on Thursday, November 10th in a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

He claimed that Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police for Ogun State, had instructed traffic officers to deal firmly with drivers and riders who were caught breaking the law.

“The Ogun state Police Command has observed with dismay the rate at which motorists and motorcycle riders are driving against traffic whenever there is little traffic jam in any of our highways, most especially on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway,” the statement read.

“This lack of discipline and barbaric attitude has resulted in numerous preventable traffic accidents, which have resulted in the loss of innocent lives.

The most recent incident involved a tipper driving against traffic who killed three innocent people in a taxi in the obada oko area.

“Also, the reckless drivers’ attitude is making conditions challenging along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway, which is currently under construction.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has instructed DPOs, Area commanders, and traffic officers across the state to go all out for those recalcitrant drivers who are in the habit of driving against the flow of traffic, also known as one way driving, with the aim of arresting and dealing with them in the most decisive manner.

“Going forward, anyone caught driving against the flow of traffic will have their car seized and face rigorous legal action.

“The Command hereby with this release warn the general public to desist from driving against traffic anywhere in the state of Ogun, as anyone caught in such act will have himself or herself to blame, regardless of such person’s status.”
