The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary poll, which produced the former Commissioner for Agriculture in Ondo State, Adegboyega Adefarati, for the next general elections, was declared null and void by a Federal High Court sitting in Akure yesterday.
Adefarati has been elected to represent the Akoko South East/Akoko South West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly on the party’s platform.
The parties to the litigation, who are all members of the same ruling party, decided to settle out of court, with the conditions of the deal requiring the party to hold a new primary election.
Mr. Victor Ategbole, an APC chieftain and co-aspirant, had sued the party and the election winner, Adefarati, over the latter’s acceptance as the ruling party’s candidate.
Justice Demi Ajayi, ordered a new primary within seven days, encouraging the party to fully conform to the rules of the new Electoral Act.
