The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has introduced a bursary scheme to support 1,000 Itsekiri students from communities in Warri Federal Constituency, Delta Central Senatorial District, and Edo State.

Sole Representative of the Olu to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Prince Collins Edema, announced the initiative in a statement issued in Warri over the weekend.

He said 746 students had been shortlisted at the close of the initial application period, but the deadline has been extended to August 31 to enable more communities to nominate beneficiaries.

Under the scheme, each Itsekiri community in the target areas is to submit the names of three eligible students, who must be indigenes, currently in 200 level or above, and provide an admission letter or transcript along with other academic documents.

Edema urged communities to avoid duplicate submissions, noting that beneficiaries are expected from Itsekiri communities in Warri South, Warri North, Warri South West, Okpe, Sapele, Ethiope East, Uvwie, and Ethiope West Local Government Areas, as well as in Edo State.
