The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for inaugurating five ultramodern transport terminals and rolling out 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji, the group described the projects as evidence that greater powers and resources should be devolved to the states.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide takes pride in Governor Mbah’s giant strides across all sectors in Enugu State. We recall that in just two years, he has revived moribund parastatals such as the United Palm Products Limited, the Hotel Presidential, and NIGERIAS,” the statement read.

The organization highlighted ongoing projects, including 260 Smart Green Schools, 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state’s 260 wards, the completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre, the National Tractor Assembly and Service Centre, and extensive road infrastructure works.

It also praised Mbah’s investments in security, citing the Enugu Command and Control Centre and over 150 AI-enabled security vehicles, which it said have helped end the Monday sit-at-home order in the state.

The body further noted Enugu’s role in pioneering electricity regulation at the state level through the establishment of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which led to a reduction in tariffs.

Celebrating the newly commissioned projects, Ohanaeze said: “We are gladdened that we now have in the South East transport infrastructure and systems that can compete with modern terminals around the world.”

The group urged residents to take ownership of the facilities and use them responsibly.

Governor Mbah, during the commissioning, said the terminals and buses were part of his administration’s plan to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

“The newly completed world-class terminals and the CNG Bus Mass Transit Scheme represent more than a ribbon-cutting exercise. They connect our vision to the daily lives of over seven million residents of Enugu State,” Mbah said.

According to him, the projects are expected to create over 20,000 jobs across bus rapid transit, 2,000 hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and related services.
