On Monday, October 31st, the National Population Commission officially launched its e-recruitment portal in order to fill ad hoc positions for the 2023 national population and housing census.
The Chairman of the National Population Commission, Nasir Isa-Kwarra, stressed the importance of having the best hands for the census during the portal’s launch in Abuja.
The Census Manager, Inuwa Jalingo, stated that the Commission expected to receive over 25 million applications for available jobs, and that the process needed to be competitive, reliable, and transparent.
“The adoption of an e-Recruitment approach is to ensure widespread applications from all over the country, minimize bias, and ensure that all qualified Nigerians are given equal opportunity to apply and be recruited, and that no one is left behind,” he said.
“The Commission establishes an e-Recruitment portal to hire ad hoc personnel for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.” This portal was tested during the Pre-test and Trial Census and has been greatly improved to serve various categories of ad-hoc staff.”
Earlier, Gloria Ndifon, Director of Employment and Wages at the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, praised the Commission and stated that e-recruitment was a new development as the world became more digital.
Mrs. Ann Aderibigbe, a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission, lauded the e-recruitment portal, saying it serves as a challenge to other agencies to embrace digitisation to enable accuracy, adding that the NPC is on the right track.
Meanwhile, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, Director Public Affairs Department at the NPC, explained that the exercise is a key preparatory activity to the 2023 census, as well as a stakeholders’ engagement activity that will enable a national census with accurate data for national planning..
