Nigerian cue sports champion Shehu Bamidele has completed a 120-hour marathon of continuous 8-ball pool, a feat that could earn him multiple Guinness World Records if verified.
The attempt, held at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, ran from Tuesday, July 2, to Sunday, July 7, 2025. At about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Bamidele surpassed the existing record of 80 hours and 1 second for the Longest 8-Ball Pool Marathon by an Individual, set by Rene Moors of the Netherlands in 2005.
He went on to exceed the 111-hour Longest Singles Marathon Record, previously achieved by Colin Pilcher and Marc Murray in the UK in 2023. Bamidele also played against 286 unique opponents during the marathon, submitted as a new Guinness category: the Most People Played in a Continuous 8-Ball Pool Marathon.
Organisers said the attempt followed Guinness World Records’ strict guidelines, including structured breaks, certified scorekeeping, rotating witnesses, and full documentation. Verification now rests with Guinness World Records, which will review all evidence.
Speaking after the marathon, Bamidele said: “This was a test of endurance and spirit. While we await Guinness World Records’ verification, I am proud of what we achieved together as a team and as a country. I dedicate this effort to Nigeria and to everyone who believed in this dream.”
The event was supported by several sponsors, including GLOBUS Bank, AVON Medical, DUNKIT, TRUE PATRIOT, Sights & Crafts, CHRONE, i-Fitness, ZTL Liquids Transfer Limited, YOLO Island, Event Porte, Oxford Blue, Snooker Z, PEP, and Capital Y Entertainment.
If confirmed, Bamidele’s feat will rank among the most significant endurance achievements in cue sports, showcasing Nigeria on the global stage.
