The Nigerian Army has dismissed a soldier for allegedly leaking video footage of a recent deadly improvised explosive device (IED) attack carried out by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, SaharaReporters has learned.
According to military sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, the dismissal followed the circulation of a video recorded shortly after the IED explosion near Gubio, which killed several soldiers. One source said, “The soldier who recorded the video of the troops that stepped on the IED two weeks ago has been dismissed from service.”
The dismissed soldier has been identified as Mansur Adamu, service number 22NA/82/3795 PTE. A photograph obtained by SaharaReporters shows Adamu holding a placard confirming his dismissal.
Earlier reports indicated that at least nine soldiers died in the attack. Military sources confirmed the victims were traveling from Maiduguri when the IEDs planted by Boko Haram detonated. Several others sustained serious injuries. “Eight died yesterday (Sunday) among those injured, while one more succumbed this morning,” a source said.
The military clarified that the attack was not an ambush but resulted solely from explosive devices. The affected personnel were members of the 145 Damasak unit under the 5 Brigade in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Photos and video footage obtained by SaharaReporters show the devastating aftermath of the blast, with soldiers lying motionless at the scene.
