Emeka Ezenwanne, the fifth prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday about how security agents at the Enugu International Airport demanded a N10,000 bribe for the clearance of hard drugs.

Earlier, Mr. Sunday Joseph, the prosecution’s witness, told the court how he smuggled in the cocaine from Brazil via Ethiopian Airlines and how the contents were subsequently tampered with.

He further described how security officers collected N10,000 as a bribe to let him carry sachets of cocaine delivered to him.

During cross-examination by Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, he also admitted to bringing cocaine into the country twice.

During those occasions, he said, he was neither intercepted nor stopped by security agents.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has charged Chibunna Umeibe and Ezenwane with cocaine trafficking.

It was also claimed that Kyari and his associates tampered with 21.25kg of cocaine recovered from them.
