The Anambra State National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, in collaboration with vigilantes, arrested three people for allegedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl.

According to reports, four suspects were involved in the incident, but while three were apprehended, the fourth escaped when security operatives raided their neighborhood in Nkpor, near Onitsha, Anambra State.

Ify Obinabo, the state Commissioner for Women and Social Affairs, revealed the incident to journalists in Awka on Wednesday, November 2nd, via her media aide, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu.

She stated that the perpetrators had been handed over to the state police headquarters in Awka, where they would face charges.

The commissioner praised the victim for speaking up following the incident and assured her that justice would be served.

During questioning, two of the suspects allegedly confessed to the crime and begged forgiveness, claiming they raped the victim following a disagreement with her father.

However, the third suspect insisted that he was only present at the time of the incident.

Despite his claims, the victim reportedly insisted on he being the second person to have carnal knowledge of her.

“The suspects, according to the victim, were co-tenants with them but took her to Nkisi River to rape her after an argument with her father.”

“While narrating her experience, the victim stated that she was first slapped by the boys, then dragged to Nkisi, before being ordered to remove her clothes as the suspects took turns having carnal knowledge of her,” the commissioner added.
