Kunle Afolayan, a multi-award-winning Actor and Filmmaker, has revealed that his late father, Adeyemi Afolayan, aka Adelove, discouraged him and his siblings from acting or making films.

Afolayan disclosed this in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.

The top Nollywood filmmaker revealed that his late father, who is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s filmmaking pioneers, discouraged him and his siblings from venturing into the make-believe world due to a lack of steady income.

He mentioned that Adelove would prefer them to be lawyers.

“My father said there was no money, that we should just become lawyers. He asked if we want to be running around like he was, and those were the things I learnt, which helped me structure the business side of what I do, because I didn’t want to end up like them”.

He also discussed his father’s career in the film industry and how his father passed away before seeing the results of his labor. Kunle thinks that Adelove’s death at the age of 56 was “pretty young.” He went on to say;

“But I think he had to die, maybe for some of us to be able to do what we’re doing today”.

Ade Love, the brother of the actress Toyin Afolayan, was also a movie director in addition to being an Actor.
