Mohammed Babangida, son of former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.), has confirmed his acceptance of the appointment as Chairman, Board of Directors of the Bank of Agriculture.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed Babangida to the position last week.
Dismissing reports suggesting he declined the role, Babangida—through his media aide, Alhaji Mahmud Abdullahi—described the circulating letter purportedly rejecting the appointment as fake and the work of “disgruntled elements.”
“I have accepted the appointment. I am ready to serve as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Agriculture,” he stated.
Babangida also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the opportunity and pledged his commitment to transforming the Bank of Agriculture in the interest of national development.
The forged letter, titled “Declining Appointment As Chairman Bank of Agriculture”, falsely claimed that Babangida had turned down the role due to “personal and professional considerations.”
The document further read: “The decision was not made lightly… I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership.”
Babangida has since dismissed the claims in the letter, affirming his full readiness to take up the responsibility entrusted to him.
