Head Coach Justine Madugu has expressed confidence in the readiness of Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their high-stakes quarter-final clash against Zambia’s Copper Queens in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking on Thursday, Madugu assured that the nine-time African champions are mentally, psychologically, and tactically equipped to take on the Zambians in what promises to be a thrilling encounter at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time — the same as in Nigeria.
“This is a crucial match, and we’ve been fine-tuning our strategies on both offense and defense after analyzing Zambia’s play,” Madugu stated. “We’ve identified their strengths and weaknesses — both individually and as a unit — and have briefed our players accordingly. We know their key threats and the danger they pose when given space, so we’ve emphasized the need for complete focus.”
“There is no room for error,” he added. “Our players must remain alert, confident, and motivated. This is Mission X — and we’re determined to see it through to success.”
A win on Friday will move the Super Falcons a step closer to securing a record-extending 10th WAFCON title — a tournament they’ve dominated since its inception as the African Women’s Championship in 1998. It would also reaffirm Nigeria’s status as the top force in African women’s football.
The winner of the Nigeria-Zambia clash will face either defending champions South Africa or Senegal in the semi-finals.
The other side of the bracket features hosts Morocco, a disciplined and ambitious side, against the ever-dangerous Lady Fennecs of Algeria.
