Less than two years after being married, MacKenzie Scott and her husband, former science teacher Dan Jewett, are divorcing.
Scott, who divorced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2019, married Seattle-based science teacher Dan Jewett last year. Her marriage to Jewett, a former teacher at her children’s school, has now ended.
A copy of the filing shows that on September 26, 2022, Ms. Scott submitted a petition for divorce to the King County Superior Court in Washington State.
McKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett announced their marriage in 2021 via a message on their Giving Pledge webpage, a philanthropic organization that encourages the world’s wealthiest people to give away the majority of their wealth to charitable causes.
Their marriage, which received significant public attention following Ms. Scott’s divorce from the world’s richest man, had also been a philanthropic partnership, with Mr. Jewett publicly promising to join her in donating their enormous fortune to good causes.
“I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and I am joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote in his Giving Pledge letter.
Scott has donated billions of dollars as part of her plan to give away the majority of her fortune.
“I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie,” Jewett wrote in his message for the Giving Pledge in 2021.
However, it was reported that Jewett’s message had vanished from the Giving Pledge site, and his name had recently been edited out of a Medium post Ms. Scott had written last year about their gifts. Scott also removed Jewett’s from her author bio on Amazon.
