Liverpool have received a significant boost with the news that Egypt’s talisman Mo Salah would be rested for Tuesday’s friendly against Liberia.

The attacker is said to return to Liverpool before the start of the Premier League season, according to national team coach Rui Vitoria on Sunday, September 25.

The 30-year-old, who scored twice in a 3-0 friendly win over Niger on Friday, has been left out of the team for Tuesday’s game in Alexandria, along with attacker Mostafa Mohamed and defender Ahmed Fatouh.

The Reds, who have had a poor start to the 2022-23 season by their own lofty standards, sit eighth in the Premier League table with two wins. They have 12 games to play in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and Champions League before elite club football comes to a halt for the World Cup.

Salah has scored just three goals in eight games in total for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far this season, failing to hit the heights of last year, when he scored 31 goals in all competitions, signed a new contract at the club over the summer amid speculation around his future.

The forward will look to add to his tally of two league goals this season when Liverpool host Brighton on Saturday.
