To enhance collection and boost internally produced income, revenue committees in Lagos State’s local government and local council development zones would follow the professional standards of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS.

This was the resolve of stakeholders in the local government revenue collection system during a workshop organised in Lagos to discuss the prospects of professionalising revenue collection in councils.

The LIRS-sponsored session comprised speakers from the Conference of Council Chairmen, the Local Government Service Commission, council managers, council treasurers, human resources officials, and revenue committee chairs.

The LIRS chairman, Mr. Ayo Subair, represented by the Station Manager, Ikeja, Mr. Segun Tijani, underlined provisions of the Constitution that allow local governments to collect income in his keynote presentation.
