Roger Federer will compete in the Laver Cup doubles alongside old rival Rafael Nadal, come Friday September 23, at the London’s 02 Arena.

The pair will compete for Team Europe against Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.

Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, announced last week that he would retire at the team event, which begins on Friday.

The 41-year-old Swiss said it would be “wonderful” to play alongside the 36-year-old Spaniard Nadal, who has 22 major titles.

“I’m not sure if I can handle it all but I’ll try. This one feels a whole lot different. I’m happy to have him on my team and not playing against him.” said Federer.

Federer has been dealing with a knee injury and is unable to play singles. His last competitive match was a quarter-final loss to Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon last year.

The three-day Laver Cup pits Europe against a world team, with Italian Matteo Berrettini filling in for Federer over the weekend.
