The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, over alleged reckless driving while livestreaming on social media.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, after a video showing the influencer driving at a dangerous speed during a live broadcast went viral. The act reportedly led to a motor accident that posed serious risks to Peller and other road users.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, described the suspect’s actions as “suicidal” and capable of endangering innocent members of the public.
The statement said Peller was taken into custody for further investigation after the footage circulated widely online.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the lives of other innocent people,” the police said.
The command added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation, noting that the outcome would be made public. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned social media influencers and content creators against using online platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous or unlawful activities.
He stressed that such actions would not be tolerated, adding that the full weight of the law would be applied to offenders. The police further urged motorists to comply strictly with traffic regulations, reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and order across the state.
