The Lagos State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a work-free day for public servants to mark this year’s Isese Day, an annual celebration of Yoruba culture and traditions.
The announcement was contained in a circular issued on August 18 by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, and circulated to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
According to the circular, the declaration reflects the government’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions and preserving Yoruba cultural values.
“Mr. Governor has approved that Wednesday, 20th August 2025 be declared a work-free day for public servants in the state,” the notice stated. “Consequently, work resumes on Thursday, 21st August 2025 at 8:00 a.m.”
All accounting officers were directed to ensure the information is widely disseminated within their agencies. Citizens were also urged to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and stability in Lagos State and the country at large.
Isese Day, observed annually on August 20, is dedicated to honouring Yoruba traditional religion, ancestors, and deities. It serves as both a cultural and spiritual festival, promoting pride in indigenous heritage and respect for traditional values.
