The Cross River State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association has congratulated Governor Ben Ayade and security agencies on the release of their two abducted members.

Dr Felix Archibong, the branch Chairman of the association, confirmed the release in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Calabar.

The two doctors were released along with two others in the early hours of Tuesday, November 22nd, according to the NMA chairman.

He stated that it was the Cross River government’s and security agencies’ efforts that led to the abducted four’s release from the abductors.

Archibong stated that he spoke with his two members after their release, emphasizing that they were unharmed.

On Friday, November 18th, two medical personnel and two others were kidnapped in Ekomita, along the Calabar-Ikom highway.

The kidnapping of the two doctors prompted the NMA to go on indefinite strike on Monday, November 21st, after the state government’s 48-hour deadline to secure their release expired.

Sule Balarabe, the state Commissioner of Police, had yet to respond to calls and text messages asking if arrests had been made in the process of restoring the medical doctors’ freedom.
