Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has officially announced the burial arrangements for Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at a hospital in London.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Katsina on Monday, Governor Radda said that after consultations with Buhari’s family and close associates, it was agreed that his remains would be flown to Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by 12:00 noon. The burial will take place the same day at 2:00 p.m. in Daura, the late President’s hometown.
Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family and Nigerians at large, describing the former leader as a national icon whose contributions to the country will be remembered for generations.
“We pray Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” the governor said. “We also condole with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the loss of his predecessor. May Allah give us the strength to bear this great loss.”
He further stated that the Katsina State Government is working closely with the Federal Government and the Buhari family to ensure a dignified and befitting farewell for the late statesman.
Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later returned as a democratically elected President, serving two terms from 2015 to 2023.
