In the early hours of Saturday, October 1, 2022, a gang of armed robbers raided New Life Gospel Church in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

Olorunfemi Ojo, the pastor of the church, confirmed the attack.

He claimed that the robbers, numbering up to fifteen, broke into the church in the early hours of the morning and attacked some church elders who were holding a vigil service.

He explained that prior to the attack, the night prayer team observed three unknown men attempting to force their way into Victory Primary School, which is located next to the church; they confronted the men, and they fled.

“Shortly after, some unknown men numbering up to about fifteen of them alongside the three that had come earlier invaded the Church premises, destroyed the windows and forced their way into the church building, hitting them with planks, broken bottles and stones, hurting the elderly men before they ran for their lives.” He added

Two church elders were injured to varying degrees and were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

After causing mayhem, the attackers fled with some of the church’s property, phones, and cash, leaving the church building in shambles with broken bottles, stones, and planks.

According to the pastor, the men were later apprehended by vigilantes as they attempted to commit another robbery in the area. Some of the perpetrators have been apprehended, while others are still on the loose.”
