On Monday, October 31st, the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, confirmed the release of Prof. Adigun Agbaje, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, from the clutches of his kidnappers.

Meanwhile, two Moshood Abiola Polytechnic students, Olayemi Adejare and Oluwatobi Orekoya, were apprehended on Sunday night near the Sat Guru Maharaji area on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

In a statement issued on Monday, SP. Adewale Osifeso, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed Prof. Agabaje’s release in Ibadan. He did not, however, confirm whether the abductors’ demand for N50 million to release the University don was met.

The UI Prof, along with other travelers, including two female students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, were kidnapped on Friday night near Dominica University on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by gunmen in military uniform.

According to Osifeso, Agbaje is currently being debriefed, and an update on the situation will be provided.

He did not, however, provide any information about the release of other kidnapped travelers.

The abductors had also demanded N10 million each for the release of the two students who had been kidnapped along with the UI Professor.
