Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, criticized last Saturday’s attack on a farm in Ipapo, Oke Ogun, Oyo State, as well as other kidnappings in Osun, Kwara, Enugu, and Kaduna states, saying it is time to arm state security outfits.
According to Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Jare Ajayi, the circumstances surrounding the incident and how the hoodlums were able to escape with their victims are further arguments for allowing security organizations set up by state governments to be armed with the necessary firearms.
He stressed, however, that the Federal Government’s prolonged refusal “is not only contrary to the federal spirit of the country’s constitution, but it is also harmful to the overall peace of the country.”
