Residents of Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, were shaken on Monday morning when hoodlums started indiscriminate attacks on several vehicle parks around the city.
According to reports, the attacks began at 8 a.m. at Oke-Baale, Old-Garage, Ilesa Garage, and Aregbe Garage, targeting members of transport unions at the parks.
The parks were dominated by leaders loyal to the state’s All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration, which had recently finished its mandate.
Union members at Old-Garage were pursued from the park into the Ayetoro part of town, sparking fears as gunfire filled the air.
One of the union members escaped with matchet cuts at Ayetoro, but his car was set on fire.
Traders closed their stores quickly, while school gates were secured to prevent the attacks from spreading.
Attacks were also conducted on union members in Oke-Baale, Aregbe garage, and Ilesa garage.
