Four travelers were kidnapped by gunmen in Irele-Ekiti, Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ekiti State.

The victims, who were said to be on their way to Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, after attending an event in Kogi State last weekend, were kidnapped around 11 a.m. last Sunday, October 30th.

According to reports, the four travelers were kidnapped by seven gun-wielding attackers on the road between Irele-Ekiti and Oke-Ako and taken into the forest.

According to the source, “the four kidnapped were returning to Ibadan from an event in Kogi State when they were attacked on the Irele-Ekiti and OkeAko road.”

“We haven’t heard from the gunmen since yesterday (Sunday), and we’re hoping they’ll contact their families, possibly for ransom.”

Chief Kehinde Abejide, a community leader in Irele-Ekiti who confirmed the abduction, bemoaned the area’s constant attack by gunmen and urged the government to beef up security in the area.

Abejide, the Akogun of Ikere-Ekiti, urged the new state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to press military authorities to provide an army outpost to protect the area from roving gunmen.
