To address the rising costs of liquefied petroleum gas, the federal government has stated that it is pursuing the opening of small LNG plants throughout communities (LPG).

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, the chairman of the Natural Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP), delivered a speech at the NALPGAM’s 2022 Annual General Meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“LPG Sustainability and Contemporary Issues” is the theme of the conference. Ibrahim promised that the Federal Government would make sure that LPG was accessible and reasonably priced.

“So, we’re constructing tiny LNG plants all over the place… In any village with a flare site, we can build a 4,000 MMBtu LNG plant. We are going to open a micro LNG plant in Owazza, Abia, within the next 12 months,” he added.

Ibrahim claimed that Nigeria had no business exporting LNG because the nation had not yet addressed issues with consumption and industry transformation.

He mentioned that the Dahomey Basin, Niger Delta Basin, Bida Basin, Gondola Basin, and Chad Basin all had an abundance of LNG.

In his words, “Nigeria is a natural gas haven. Now that LNG is the replacement fuel, there is a chance to use the resource to advance the nation.”
