The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over 93,868 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), warning that the trend could affect participation in upcoming elections.
FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Aminu Kasamu Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ consultative forum with the media in Abuja. He also cautioned against electoral offences, saying more arrests and prosecutions should be expected during future polls.
Idris announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume on Monday, August 18, 2025, with online pre-registration, followed by in-person registration from August 25 at the INEC FCT office and the six area council offices between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays.
The exercise, he said, will enable eligible Nigerians who have turned 18 or those who have never registered to obtain PVCs. It will also allow for the replacement of lost or damaged cards, transfer of registration within or outside the FCT, and correction of personal details.
Idris urged the media to intensify public enlightenment to ensure massive and informed participation in both the CVR and the February 2025 FCT Area Council elections. He stressed that the success of these exercises depends on citizen engagement and peaceful conduct.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to partnering with the media to promote an inclusive electoral process and strengthen democracy in the FCT and across Nigeria.
