The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports claiming it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, January 2, by its Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission said it had not published any timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls, contrary to claims circulating on social media.
INEC noted that a purported timetable allegedly outlining activities for the 2027 general elections has been widely shared online, but stressed that it did not originate from the Commission.
The electoral body explained that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, adding that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates INEC to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the Commission said.
INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.
The Commission added that when the timetable is eventually released, it would be communicated through its verified and official channels.
INEC also urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on information from its official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
