The driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the accident that injured British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu, Ogun State.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 45, faced a four-count charge on Friday at the Sagamu Magisterial Division before Chief Magistrate O.M. Somefun. The charges stem from an accident that killed two foreign nationals, friends of Joshua, and left the boxer with minor injuries.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the defendant is accused of driving dangerously, reckless driving, negligence, and speeding without due care for other road users, in violation of Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2002. He is also alleged to have driven without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the same Act.

Chief Magistrate Somefun granted Kayode bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties. He was remanded in custody pending fulfillment of the bail conditions. The trial has been adjourned to January 20, 2026.

The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, at approximately 11 a.m. along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun, near the Sagamu Interchange, on the Ibadan-bound axis. It resulted in the deaths of two passengers, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
