The Imo State Government has launched ImoTalentHub.com, a groundbreaking digital talent marketplace—touted as the first of its kind in Africa—designed to connect the state’s growing pool of technology professionals with global employment opportunities.

The platform, developed under the state’s Skill Up Imo initiative, links software engineers, data scientists, and designers trained in Imo to employers in major innovation hubs such as Lagos, London, Dubai, and Silicon Valley.

Developed in collaboration with the University of California, Berkeley and the US Market Access Centre, ImoTalentHub aims to place 100,000 Imo-trained tech professionals in paid global roles by 2026.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, who introduced the Skill Up Imo programme in 2022, said the initiative is part of a broader vision to transition the state into a digital economy while tackling youth unemployment and social vices like cultism and internet fraud.

So far, over 40,000 young people have graduated from the programme, undergoing rigorous training in areas such as software development, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and user experience (UX) design—building one of Nigeria’s largest tech talent pools.

ImoTalentHub transforms these skills into global job opportunities by providing each graduate with a verified digital profile, portfolio display, and access to smart contracts that handle KYC, escrow payments, and tax compliance.

According to officials, this system enables companies—from a fintech firm in London’s Shoreditch to startups in Dubai—to hire professionals in Owerri as efficiently and securely as hiring locally, with payment options in foreign currencies through regulated channels.

The curriculum supporting the initiative is powered by UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology. Berkeley professors have facilitated training on ethical AI and venture funding, supported the setup of cloud-based NVIDIA GPU laboratories in Imo Digital City, and are designing a Founder Development Programme offering Berkeley certification and venture capital access.

“Our partnership with UC Berkeley and the US Market Access Centre gives Imo youths not just skills, but global networks and the confidence to build world-class startups right here in Owerri,” said Governor Uzodimma. “We aim to empower 300,000 residents over the next five years and connect Imo’s tech ecosystem with global markets.”

The state’s Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, added that data from the platform would guide smarter policies, boost foreign income, and showcase Nigeria’s potential to export high-value digital services.

Managing Director of the US Market Access Centre, Chris Burry, remarked: “We see in Imo the same determination and talent that built Silicon Valley. With the right mentoring and resources, these young professionals will deliver solutions for Nigeria, Africa, and the world.”

ImoTalentHub also features AI-driven job matching, real-time earnings dashboards, an API for bulk employer access, and a community space for mentoring and collaboration. Future upgrades include bulk contracting with escrow protection.

To ensure transparency, the platform publishes anonymized hiring and earnings data—enabling investors and partners to track its impact.

The state government projects the platform will significantly reduce youth unemployment, grow foreign remittances, and re-engage the Imo diaspora. Global firms seeking skilled tech workers can now access a competitive pool of Berkeley-certified Nigerian talent.

Meanwhile, local companies and startups can partner with the state through apprenticeships and joint tech labs, while firms across Nigeria and Africa can build remote teams without relocation costs.

Imo indigenes living abroad—in cities like London, Houston, or Johannesburg—are also encouraged to join as mentors, investors, or hiring partners, making ImoTalentHub a truly inclusive and community-driven innovation.
