Sonia Ekweremadu, the daughter of Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, appeared in court yesterday on November 7, 2022 for allegedly trafficking a homeless man into the UK to harvest his organs for herself.

Sonia Ekweremadu, 25, is charged along with her father, Ike Ekweremadu, 60, mother, Beatrice Ekweremadu, 56, and doctor Obinna Obeta, 50.

They are all charged with conspiracy to arrange another person’s travel for the purpose of exploitation.

It is alleged that they conspired with another family member, Isaac Ekweremadu, and some unknown others to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old between August 1, 2021, and May 5, 2022, in order to exploit him.

They allegedly helped him travel from Lagos to London to have one of his kidneys removed.

According to the court, Ekeweremadu’s daughter, Sonia, has a kidney disease and has been on dialysis for some time.

According to prosecutors, the plot was to harvest the man’s organ for her benefit.

They were apprehended after the young man, who had previously lived on the streets of Lagos, appeared at Staines police station and claimed to be a victim of human trafficking.

Officers learned that the man arrived in the UK on February 20 of this year and was taken to the Royal Free Hospital for tests, none of which he agreed to.

Following these tests, the man stated that he returned to the house where he had been staying and was “treated effectively as a slave.”

He claimed he fled the location and was homeless for three days before approaching the police.
